Everything that we see
is a shadow cast by that
which we do not see.

Coming of Age Ceremonies
Many cultures and religious traditions do a great job of honoring and supporting coming of age passages from childhood to adolescence, adolescence to adulthood. In secular America, not so much.
My passage into adolescence was marked by my parents’ divorce on my 12th birthday, and the beginning of a whole lot of risky behavior I'm lucky to have survived.
I want better for my two beloved godchildren and my niece and nephews.
How do you support the young people in your life? There are so many rites of passage in a young person’s life that deserve more than a card and a check – from the onset of adolescence; to milestone birthdays, graduations, and achievements; to transitions like moving or divorce. Planning a coming of age ceremony places the young person at the center to celebrate their strengths, witness their innate wisdom, and help them to marshal the resources they need to traverse the turbulent times.
